Veneno (2020) is Spain’s acclaimed drama based on the life of trans icon Cristina “La Veneno” Ortiz. Fierce, heartbreaking, and unapologetically glam, it’s a celebration of identity, survival, and legacy.
This iconic series dives into the life of the dazzling, unapologetic trans icon who slayed Spanish TV in the ‘90s and captured hearts just by being her fabulous, chaotic self. But behind the wigs and wild fame, there’s a story as complex as it is powerful, charting her rise from a painful childhood in Franco-era Spain to her stormy stardom and mysterious death.
Enter Valeria Vegas (Lola Rodríguez), a young trans journalist whose own coming-of-age mirrors La Veneno’s in haunting (and empowering) ways. When Valeria sets out to write Cristina’s biography, it sparks a legendary bond between two generations who dared to live loudly – and womanhood gets the messy, honest spotlight it deserves.
Part biography, part time-traveling truth bomb, Veneno is a tribute to queer resilience, media madness, and the kind of diva who doesn’t just make headlines – she rewrites them.
