Synopsis

She’s a posh executive. He’s a humble salesman with a heart of gold. One fateful car accident smashes their worlds together – literally – and sparks a rollercoaster of romance, class clashes, and major misunderstandings. The 2022 reboot of Hasta que la plata nos separe brings back Colombia’s beloved tragicomedy with a glossy new cast and sharper stakes. Produced by RCN Televisión and Telemundo, this modern retelling stars Carmen Villalobos as Alejandra Maldonado, a fierce, high-powered car dealership exec with a wedding on the horizon and zero patience for nonsense. Enter Rafael Méndez (Sebastián Martínez), a charming but broke salesman whose life collides with hers in a car accident that flips both their worlds upside down.

Rafael owes Alejandra a massive debt, and to avoid jail, he agrees to pay her back in monthly installments. But as they clash over class, pride, and personal baggage, sparks fly – and not just from the wreckage. Their chemistry is undeniable, but so are the obstacles: jealous partners, meddling families, and a society that’s not ready for a love story between a boss babe and a street-smart hustler.

With 88 episodes of romance, revenge, and ridiculous financial drama, this reboot keeps the heart of Fernando Gaitán’s original while dialing up the glam and grit for a new generation. It’s witty, romantic, and just messy enough to binge without guilt.

Review

What kept us buckled in:
Let’s talk about Carmen Villalobos, our forever queen, bringing signature fire and flair to the lead role. She’s magnetic in every scene, as always. The humor still lands (mostly), the drama still twists (on occasion), and the show keeps the spirit of the original alive with a few glossy modern upgrades along the way.

What didn’t quite sparkle:
The chemistry of this remake didn’t reach the dizzying heights of the OG pairing (Marcela Carvajal and Víctor Hugo Cabrera, we miss you!). Some of the magic felt a little repackaged. It’s not that it was bad (far from it), but the remake felt more like a tribute album than a revival concert.

Worth watching?
If you’re in the mood for something light, this is a solid pick. It’s warm, a little silly, and has just enough emotional pull to keep you invested.

Telebesitos Tip 💋
While it may not eclipse the 2006 classic, it holds its own as a fresh and enjoyable remix.
