Welcome to the birth of the Vencer universe – Vencer el Miedo (2020) is the first in a five-part anthology of baddie-driven dramas, each taking on real-world issues with heart, grit, and all the messy feels that come with growing up and moving on.
Vencer el Miedo follows four powerful mujeres from different walks of life, each facing a whirlwind of real-life chaos – think teen pregnancy, toxic masculinity, and all the messy family skeletons that never learned how to stay in the closet.
From the youngest fighting to break free from a future she never wanted, to a mother determined to rewrite her past, every woman is on her own mission to grab life by the reins and say “no más” to fear. Secrets unravel, lovers deceive, and strength is born from the ashes of every breakdown. This isn’t just about surviving the patriarchy – it’s about slaying it in heels.
Where it stands out:
Vencer el miedo didn’t shy away from tackling tough, real-world issues, and it treated them with more care and nuance than a lot of typical novelas-with-a-message. And Paulina Goto sometimes catches stray criticism online, but we’re standing with our queen. She brings real fire to a role that could’ve easily melted into cliché.
Where it stumbles:
Sometimes the show gets so eager to deliver the message that the story takes a back seat. A little more nuance could’ve taken this from good to great. That said, it still manages to juggle romance, family drama, and social commentary without going full La Rosa de Guadalupe. Well… most of the time.
Telebesitos Tip 💋
It’s part after-school special, part classic Televisa melodrama, with a sprinkle of romance and just a hint of cheese. Stick with it, though, and you’ll walk away with all the feels (and maybe even a couple of life lessons).
