Synopsis

Por Ella Soy Eva (2012) is a gender-bending romantic comedy with a twist of heart (and a box of wigs). Jaime Camil stars as Juan Carlos Caballero, a suave executive who loses everything – his job, his reputation, and the woman he loves – after a corporate betrayal and a messy breakup with Helena (Lucero), a smart, single mom climbing the ranks at Grupo Imperio.

To win back Helena’s trust and expose the real villains, Juan Carlos goes undercover… as Eva María León Jaramillo Viuda de Zuloaga, a middle-aged woman with sass, style, and a killer backstory. As Eva, he becomes Helena’s assistant and confidante, learning firsthand the struggles women face in the workplace and in life. But the disguise gets complicated fast: Juan Carlos starts falling for Helena all over again, while juggling Eva’s fake identity, a nosy suitor, and a web of lies that’s one mascara smear away from collapse.

Funny, heartfelt, and surprisingly progressive for the time, Por Ella Soy Eva tears down the machismo wall showing us that sometimes you have to walk in heels to understand what love – and respect – really mean.

Based on: En las tacones de Eva (2006)

Review

Por ella soy Eva
Review: The fastest way to fix a toxic ego is a wig, heels, and a serious reality check

What made us say “yaaaas”:
Two words: Lucero. Queen. She plays Helena with elegance, fire, and that signature sparkle that makes you root for her even when the plot goes full telenovela. Jaime Camil, as the man-turned-woman-turned-redeemed-hero, absolutely goes for it – wig, heels, and all. The physical comedy keeps things light, and the show mixes heart with humor in a way that (mostly) works.

What didn’t land:
Not every gag ages perfectly, and while the show aims for laughs, there are moments where it leans too hard on stereotypes. Also, if you’ve seen the original, this one may feel more like a polished remix than a reinvention. It plays it safe. And with over 150 episodes some episodes drag longer than a quinciñera dress.

Worth watching?
Yes – if you’re in the mood for something light and zany. Even if you know how it ends, the journey is entertaining. It’s not flawless, but it’s fab where it counts.

Telebesitos Tip 💋
Mrs. Doubtfire meets Televisa. It’s campy, sweet, and surprisingly heartfelt in parts, with just enough dramatic spice to keep you watching.
