Synopsis

Pablo Escobar: El Patrón del Mal (2012) hit Caracol TV as a dramatized reboot of the classic book, La parábola de Pablo, diving into Colombia’s most infamous legacy. Andrés Parra leads the charge with Angie Cepeda and Cecilia Navia riding shotgun in this high-stakes retelling.

Things kick off in full drama mode: our anti-hero, Pablo Escobar, meets his fate in a police shootout, and then ¡Pum! – we’re rewinding straight to his tears-on-a-footbridge childhood. From a scolding mom with chilling advice (“if you’re gonna be bad, be the best at it”) to cheating on tests and launching class mutinies, baby Pablo was never built for boring.

But once puberty hits, it’s full narco mode. With his cousin Gonzalo at his side, Pablo levels up from bodyguard to smuggler kingpin, serving that iconic “Plata o Plomo” energy, like bribe or die, baby. As the coke empire blooms, so do the bodies, with betrayals, bribes, and body counts stacking higher than his stacks of cash. This is not your average narco crime telenovela, this is the rise and fall of el patrón del mal, served with equal parts ambition, blood, and bullets.

Review

What slayed (besides, you know… everyone):
Andrés Parra as Escobar is a masterclass in menace. He’s layered, magnetic, and deeply unsettling. The way he snaps from “loving dad” to “cold-blooded terror” is so magnetic you can’t stop watching. It’s rare to see a narco boss portrayed with this much psychological depth, and that’s what elevated the whole show.

Telebesitos Tip 💋
If you’re into narco stories but tired of them being turned into aesthetic mood boards for toxic masculinity, El Patrón del Mal is a solid bet. It doesn’t glorify Escobar – it interrogates him. Just be ready for a long watch, a heavy vibe, and a lot of morally gray storytelling.
