Synopsis

Narcos: Mexico (2018–2021) is a 30-episode companion series to Narcos, produced by Gaumont International Television. This time, the story shifts south and digs into the roots of Mexico’s modern drug war – where ambition, politics, and power collide long before the headlines catch up.

Set in the early 1980s, the series follows Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo (Diego Luna), a former cop with a big idea and even bigger nerve. While others hustle in scattered, chaotic operations, Félix sees something different – a chance to unify the fractured plazas into a single, organized machine that runs like a business. And for a while, it works.

As Félix builds the Guadalajara Cartel into a dominant force, shifting from marijuana to the far more lucrative cocaine trade, his empire grows fast – and dangerously. But on the other side is DEA agent Kiki Camarena (Michael Peña), who relocates his family to Guadalajara chasing justice, only to realize he’s stepping into a system where the cartel’s power is quietly protected at the highest levels.

One man builds the system. Another tries to break it.

What unfolds is a slow-burn collision between ambition and accountability, where every move tightens the tension and raises the cost. With a grounded, almost documentary-like feel, the story exposes the fragile alliances, institutional corruption, and human consequences behind the rise of a narco empire – showing how a vision for control can spiral into something far more uncontrollable.
