La madrastra (The Stepmom, 2022) is a Mexican telenovela reboot of the 2005 version of the same name. Part of the Fábrica de sueños franchise, it stars Aracely Arámbula and Andrés Palacios, with Marisol del Olmo and Juan Carlos Barreto adding intrigue to the cast.
This may sound like a spoiler but it’s not, it’s just the insanely juicy setup of this reboot of an iconic novela. So get this: María (Aracely Arámbula), a young wife and mom, gets framed for murder in the very first episode and spends twenty years behind bars while her husband, played by the ever-brooding Andrés Palacios, tells their kids she died. After that, the drama jumps out immediately.
But Marcia knows she’s innocent – and she’s not about to rot in prison while her ex’s shady circle gets away clean. So obviously, she hits the books, earns a law degree behind bars, and plots her justice-fueled comeback.
Twenty spicy years later, she walks out of prison and straight into a plot twist no one saw coming. Her kids think she’s dead, and Esteban’s snobby sister pulled a Parent Trap by raising them with a fake portrait mom. Cue the ultimate face reveal: Marcia reinvents herself as Marisa Jones, crashes their lives as their new stepmom, and sets out to unmask the real killer – one shady suspect at a time.

Oh yes, the drama delivered:
Aracely Arámbula said “method acting!” and meant it. Her María is raw, fiery, and dripping with nonstop novela intensity. The central mystery actually keeps you guessing (for a while), everyone’s shady, everyone’s sus, and it’s fun trying to figure out which elegant suit or silk blouse is hiding a murderer.
And yes, it got a little extra:
This one loves to go big. And sometimes… a little too big. Some scenes are so over the top you’ll swear you accidentally switched to a Sábado Gigante sketch.
Telebesitos Tip 💋
It’s sleek, stylish, and full of dramatic hallway confrontations. A little extra, but Aracely’s glam and fierce mama bear energy keep it very much alive.
