Synopsis

Cidade Invisível (2021), aka Invisible City, is a 12 episode Netflix original that takes Brazilian folklore and drops it straight into a gritty, modern thriller. Created by Carlos Saldanha, this is what happens when myth meets murder mystery… and neither one backs down.

At the center is Eric (Marco Pigossi), an environmental police officer already carrying the weight of his wife Gabriela’s suspicious death in a forest fire. He’s grieving, distracted, and trying to hold onto reality… until reality completely breaks.

A pink river dolphin washes up on a Rio beach. And then turns into a human corpse.

From that moment on, Eric is pulled into a hidden world living right alongside ours – an “invisible city” of legendary entities walking among humans. We’re talking Cuca (Alessandra Negrini) running a bar with quiet menace, Saci (Wesley Guimarães) stirring chaos with that signature trickster energy, and a whole lineup of figures that feel both ancient and dangerously current.

As Eric digs deeper, the case stops being just about his wife. It opens into something much bigger – a supernatural conflict tied to vengeance, memory, and the blurred line between myth and reality. Enter Corpo Seco, a dark, rotting force fueled by human cruelty, pushing the story into full-on eerie territory.

By season two, the scale expands into the Amazon, where the fight shifts from personal grief to something even heavier – the survival of the forest itself.

Invisible City is moody and immersive, blending urban grit with flashes of the uncanny. But what really hits is how it reframes folklore, turning characters many grew up with into complex, sometimes terrifying figures with real stakes.
