Our Guardián de mi Vida review starts with some good news: classic telenovela drama can still hit hard when the characters have actual depth.
Let’s face it. At this point, finding a new telenovela that isn’t a reboot is nearly impossible. But Guardián de mi vida is one of the rare remakes that actually comes close to capturing the magic of the original Amor en custodia. If you’re going to recycle the classics, this is how you do it.
Produced by Juan Osorio for TelevisaUnivision, the story follows Sofía Peralta-Avitia (Silvia Navarro), a successful businesswoman who seems to have the perfect life – until you look a little closer. Trapped in a cold, unfaithful marriage, everything changes after she’s rescued from a brutal attack by Franco Gallardo (Daniel Arenas), a humble rancher with a big heart. When Sofía hires Franco as her personal bodyguard, their growing connection quickly turns into the kind of forbidden romance telenovela fans can’t resist.
Of course, that’s only the beginning. Sofía’s daughter, Barbi (Paulina Goto), is on her own emotional journey as she struggles with identity, family expectations, and an unhealthy pursuit of perfection. Her romance with Chava Reyes (Diego Klein) brings even more complications, especially when Franco’s adopted daughter, Rex, enters the picture. Throw in long-buried family secrets, a ruthless woman determined to destroy the Peralta-Avitia dynasty from within, and a supporting cast that includes Sergio Sendel, Kimberly Dos Ramos, Alejandro Camacho, Rodolfo Salas, Tiago Correa, and Roberta Damián, and you’ve got all the ingredients for a classic telenovela binge.
Longtime novela fans may recognize the premise. Guardián de mi vida is the latest adaptation of the beloved Argentine hit Amor en custodia, following the popular Mexican versions from 2005 and Amores verdaderos in 2012. While the story has been told before, this new production gives it a fresh cast and modern feel.
The series premiered on Univision in the U.S. on May 18, 2026, with new episodes arriving on ViX the following day. In Mexico, it makes its debut on Las Estrellas on June 29, 2026. And don’t skip the opening credits – the theme song, “Quiero enamorarme” by Vanesa Martín, is the perfect way to set the mood before all the romance, betrayals, and family drama begin.
Based on: Amor en custodia (Argentina, 2005)
Guardián de mi vida is proof that classic telenovela drama can still hit hard when the characters are given some actual depth. The romance, betrayals, family secrets and sibling rivalries are all here, but it’s the relationships that make this one work.
What gave it life: Silvia Navarro reminding everyone exactly why she’s a telenovela queen, Daniel Arenas making one hell of a comeback, and relationships with enough depth to keep us genuinely invested.
Telebesitos Tip 💋
Is it melodramatic and completely over the top in every way? Obvio. That’s why we’re here. But underneath all the chaos, Guardián de mi vida has real emotional weight, and that makes the crazy stuff land even better.
