Synopsis

If you haven’t met Betty yet, you’re in for a roller coaster of heartbreak, glow-ups, and seriously emotional office drama

Yo soy Betty, la fea (1999–2001) is the 335-episode phenomenon from RCN Televisión, created by the legendary Fernando Gaitán. Set inside the glossy chaos of the fashion world, it follows Beatriz Aurora Pinzón Solano (Ana María Orozco) – a brilliant economist constantly overlooked because she doesn’t fit the industry’s beauty standard.

Shut out of banking jobs despite her elite education, Betty lands a secretary role at Ecomoda, a high-fashion empire where appearances rule everything. There, she becomes indispensable to the charming but reckless president Armando Mendoza (Jorge Enrique Abello), quietly steering the company while he steers it straight toward disaster. To save him, Betty creates Terra Moda – a secret financial lifeline that ties her fate even closer to his.

Then it gets messy.

Under pressure from his cynical best friend Mario Calderón (Ricardo Vélez), Armando decides to manipulate Betty into falling in love with him to secure her loyalty. What starts as strategy spirals into something far more dangerous as Betty’s heart, loyalty, and sense of self get pulled into a game she never agreed to play.

Layered with biting humor, workplace politics, and the iconic Cuartel de las Feas, the story goes beyond romance into something sharper – a look at power, perception, and what really holds value in a world obsessed with image. Ecomoda sells beauty, but Betty understands the truth behind it.

This Colombian rom‑com is cute, witty, and proves brains (and kindness) can make ugly look fabulous.
