Vencer la ausencia (2022) is a Mexican telenovela produced by TelevisaUnivision, helmed by Rosy Ocampo. This original drama stars Ariadne Díaz, David Zepeda, Mayrín Villanueva, and Danilo Carrera, with Alejandra Barros and María Perroni Garza rounding out the emotional ensemble.
In the fourth chapter of the Vencer saga, three lifelong ride-or-dies (and the daughter of their late bestie) are left reeling after a tragic accident slices through their plans like a twist-knife. Their dream was to launch a food truck and finally take control of their destinies. But fate had other ideas: a son is lost, a husband disappears, a teen is orphaned, and one woman’s shot at motherhood is ripped away.
Add to that a mountain of debt, a frenemy-turned-fiend with revenge on the brain, and the slow implosion of a “perfect” marriage. But these mujeres aren’t folding. They’re grieving, scheming, surviving – and maybe even falling in love again. It’s a spiritual sequel in the Vencer universe (aka the emotional multiverse of trauma queens), diving deep into loss, motherhood, and the unshakable sisterhood that rises from heartbreak.
What hit straight to the corazón:
No manches, this was easily the strongest lineup in the Vencer franchise. The cast came stacked with talent from top to bottom, and the message about finding joy after loss really landed (well, mostly). Sure, some grief scenes leaned a little telenovela theater kid (okay, everyone take a breath), but the show still deserves credit for portraying mourning in all its messy, nonlinear chaos.
Where the arrow missed:
Some storylines started to lose steam, and a few twists felt like they were piling on just for extra drama. We already cried with you for 40 episodes – no need to throw in a last-minute paternity reveal and a corporate scandal. Like most novelas, subtlety didn’t make the call sheet. A little more nuance would’ve gone a long way.
Telebesitos Tip 💋
Our pick for the best of the Vencer series, but consider this emotional cardio – so make sure you’re in the right headspace before you dive in.
