Espelho da Vida (2018), aka Mirror of Life, is a 160-episode supernatural fever dream from Elizabeth Jhin that blends reincarnation, mystery, and old-school romance into one very addictive ride. Set in the foggy, colonial town of Rosa Branca, this one serves atmosphere, destiny, and secrets that refuse to stay buried.
Front and center is Cris Valência (Vitória Strada), a glamorous actress who rolls into town to star in a film about a mysterious 1930s murder. Alongside her is Alain (João Vicente de Castro), a brooding, skeptical director with his own emotional baggage. What starts as a film shoot quickly spirals into something much deeper… and way more personal.
After discovering a mystical mirror hidden inside the abandoned Castelo mansion, Cris realizes she’s the reincarnation of Julia Castelo, the woman at the center of that decades-old murder. And this isn’t just visions or vibes – she can physically travel back to 1932 and live Julia’s life in real time. Same house, same people, same danger.
As she moves between past and present, things get messy fast. She falls into a sweeping, forbidden romance with Danilo Breton, a sensitive artist from the past, while clocking that everyone in her current life – her fiancé Alain, her rival Isabel, the whole crew – has a direct link to that original tragedy. Same souls, different timelines, unfinished business everywhere.
Now fully obsessed, Cris is determined to solve Julia’s murder and break the cycle before history repeats itself… but time is not on her side.
Underneath the polished aesthetic, Espelho da Vida digs into heavier territory – karmic debt, emotional obsession, forgiveness, and the idea that some stories don’t end, they just reset.
It’s romantic, eerie, a little mind-bending, and very committed to its drama. Because in this world, a mirror doesn’t just reflect who you are – it exposes who you’ve always been.
