Few telenovelas entered 2025 with higher expectations than Los hilos del pasado. It’s the kind of novela that walks in wearing couture and carrying emotional damage. This glossy TelevisaUnivision hit, produced by José Alberto Castro, reimagines the iconic El privilegio de amar with a sleek modern edge – serving fashion, buried secrets, and enough heartbreak to keep the lights on.
At the center is Yadhira Carrillo as Carolina Guillén, a legendary designer whose sharp tongue and icy reputation hide an old wound that never healed. Years ago, Carolina fell for Salvador, a young religious novice who left for the priesthood without knowing she was pregnant. Desperate and alone, she gave up their newborn daughter – a choice that changed everything. Now that child is Cristina, played by Bárbara López, a strong-willed young woman raised in foster care who dreams of becoming a top model and worships Carolina from afar.
Fate, being messy as always, brings Cristina straight into Carolina’s fashion house. Sparks fly when Cristina falls for Carlos Navarro, played by Emmanuel Palomares, Carolina’s stepson and resident heartthrob. Carolina has no clue Cristina is her daughter, but she still feels threatened enough to block the romance, sabotage Cristina’s rise, and unleash peak boss-from-hell energy.
Then the truth starts clawing its way to the surface.
With manipulative enemies circling the family empire and old lies unraveling fast, Carolina is forced to face the life she buried. Los hilos del pasado is all about love, regret, class, identity, and whether broken bonds can ever truly be stitched back together.
Based on: Cristal (1985), El privilegio de amar (1998)
Telebesitos Tip 💋
You’ll be tempted, but don’t bail early. After a slightly clunky start, Los hilos del pasado finds its groove around episode 10 and reminds us why telenovelas still own the emotional high ground. The performances alone are worth tuning in for – this cast acts circles around the script.

Absolutely worth watching, despite its clunky start and slightly déjà vu storyline. Los hilos del pasado really hits its stride around episode 20 and reminds us that sometimes a great cast can make a tired story feel fresh. The performances alone are worth tuning in for – this cast acts circles around the script. And Yadhira Carrillo’s return to novelas after years away is nothing short of regal. This is easily my pick for the best of the year.
Her unraveling marriage with Eduardo Santamarina has surprising depth and emotional weight (rare for a novela, trust me). The main cast shines bright, but Natasha Dupeyrón as Tamara deserves her flowers too. As the obsessive ex she’s magnetic, messy, and just the right amount of unhinged, adding a much-needed spark whenever she’s on screen.
