Synopsis

Based on the iconic novel by The House of the Spirits author Isabel Allende, La Casa de los Espíritus (2026) arrives at Amazon Prime Video with full prestige-drama energy – sweeping romance, family betrayals, supernatural visions, and enough unresolved trauma to last a century. Set in a politically unstable South American country, the eight-episode series follows the powerful and deeply fractured Trueba family across multiple generations as love, class tensions, and revolution slowly tear everything apart.

At the center is the feared and controlling Esteban Trueba, played by Alfonso Herrera, whose obsession with power leaves scars that ripple through the lives of the women around him. The story unfolds through the perspectives of Clara, Blanca, and Alba – three generations of women navigating passion, repression, family secrets, and strange supernatural gifts that seem woven into the bloodline itself. Nicole Wallace and Dolores Fonzi portray Clara at different stages of her life, bringing the clairvoyant matriarch an eerie calm that quietly anchors the chaos around her.

And trust… there is a lot of chaos.

The cast is stacked with familiar faces, including Fernanda Castillo as the emotionally burdened Férula Trueba, Juan Pablo Raba as the adventurous Uncle Marcos, Rochi Hernández as Alba, and Fernanda Urrejola alongside Sara Becker portraying Blanca. Over the course of fifty years, the series blends forbidden love affairs, political violence, heartbreak, and magical realism into one massive emotional spiral where the past refuses to stay buried.

This is the kind of story where ghosts feel less scary than the living.

Based on: La casa de los espíritus (novel, 1982)

Review

Telebesitos Tip 💋
Don’t go into La casa de los espíritus expecting a light weekend binge. This one is heavy, emotional, layered, and deeply absorbing – but absolutely worth the ride.

La casa de los espíritus is the kind of sweeping, prestige-style book adaptation that Isabel Allende fans dream about. The performances are a huge part of why this version lands so hard and visually, the show looks expensive in the best possible way. And unlike the infamous 1993 adaptation, this version actually feels culturally rooted in Latin America – told in Spanish, filmed in Chile, and fully connected to the political tension and class struggles that made the novel so powerful in the first place.

It’s beautiful, devastating, and surprisingly intimate for something this epic in scale.
