Synopsis

When an elegant divorcée with salt-and-pepper flair catches the eye of a man half her age, you know the streets of Mexico City aren’t ready.

In the 2025 Mexican series Con esa misma mirada, Eloísa Obregón (Angélica Rivera) is a sophisticated woman stepping into a messy second act after her 25-year marriage to Octavio (Iván Sánchez) implodes. The reason? He’s been living a double life with a much younger woman for years.

And just when Eloísa is ready to dip a toe back into the dating pool, life throws her a very steamy curveball: Pablo (Diego Klein), a magnetic young journalist with a complicated past and a jawline carved by the gods.

Cue the slow burns, secret glances, and epic stare-downs at family brunch. But this isn’t just a cougarette love story – it’s a full-blown emotional rollercoaster with age gaps, ex-husbands, nosy kids, and society’s judgy whispers adding spice to every moment.

With visuals that sparkle and just the right amount of scandal, Con esa misma mirada proves that love doesn’t come with an expiration date – it just hits harder the second time around.

Based on: Señora Isabel (1993)

Review

What gave it life:
Angélica Rivera said “retirement who?” and stepped right back into her queen era. Our former First Lady of Mexico returns to telenovelas like she never left, commanding the screen with that same 2004 main character energy – and we couldn’t get enough. The blockbuster cast around her was also a total power move, with Sofía Castro – Angélica’s real-life daughter – playing her on-screen daughter, adding a layered, multigenerational spark.

Where it tripped:
The real issue? The script needed a stronger grip. All the juicy elements are there, but a few too many scenes feel forced, recycled, or just plain illogical. It’s still a glossy, star-powered watch, but it doesn’t quite earn a spot among our list of Best Mexican Telenovelas.

Telebesitos Tip 💋
If you’re here to see La Gaviota shine, press play. But emotionally, it doesn’t hit as hard as Victoria or Ana de Nadie. This one’s more like fashion week – iconic looks that dazzle from afar, but up close, you can spot the safety pins.
