Synopsis

El Marginal (2016) is not a polished crime drama pretending to be dangerous – it’s raw, grimy, and ready to throw you straight into the chaos. Created by Sebastián Ortega and Adrián Caetano, this acclaimed Argentine thriller drops viewers inside a prison where corruption runs deeper than the concrete walls. If you like tension, moral gray zones, and characters who stay one bad decision away from disaster, welcome in.

The story begins with Miguel Palacios, played by Juan Minujín, an ex-cop forced into an undercover mission to protect his family. Sent into the infamous San Onofre prison under the fake identity of Pastor Peña, he must infiltrate the gang that kidnapped a judge’s teenage daughter and find her before time runs out. Simple mission. Terrible location.

Inside San Onofre, the real power belongs to the Borges family gang, not the guards. Mario Borges (Claudio Rissi) rules with cold intelligence, while his younger brother Diosito (Nicolás Furtado) brings pure volatility and menace. Their empire thrives with help from corrupt warden Sergio Antín (Gerardo Romano), who treats brutality like administrative policy.

Then Pastor gets abandoned.

Once betrayed by the very people who sent him in, the mission disappears and survival becomes everything. Pastor must navigate gang wars, shifting loyalties, and deadly politics while searching for any path out. Along the way, prison social worker Emma Molinari (Martina Gusmán) tries to hold onto some shred of humanity in a place designed to crush it. El Marginal is a brutal ride through power, desperation, and the cost of being trapped inside a broken system.

Review

Telebesitos Tip 💋
Season 1 comes in hot. The show grabs you by the throat right from the gate. Just be prepared – this is not a light binge, it’s intense, violent and shockingly bleak. It’s giving Shawshank Redemption if it was directed by Quentin Tarantino after a week of no sleep.
