Synopsis

Netflix’s Luis Miguel: The Series (2018) dives into the life of Mexico’s beloved crooner – the saga told straight from El Sol himself, with every high note, heartbreak, and headline-worthy twist served up in his own dazzling style.

This Netflix hit takes viewers behind the velvet curtain of Luis Miguel, and shows the cost of becoming a superstar before you’ve even had a chance to grow up. Led by Diego Boneta in a magnetic performance, the series moves between Luis Miguel’s explosive rise in the 1990s and the painful childhood that built it.

As a boy, Luis Miguel is pushed into the spotlight by his father and manager Luisito Rey, played with delicious menace by Óscar Jaenada. Luisito is controlling, manipulative, and obsessed with turning his son’s talent into money, status, and his own secondhand dreams. Behind the fame is a home life full of pressure, fear, and emotional damage that doesn’t disappear once the crowds start screaming.

Then comes the reckoning.

As adult Luis Miguel gains power and success, he begins uncovering the depth of his father’s lies, corruption, and betrayal. At the same time, he is haunted by the disappearance of his mother Marcela Basteri (Anna Favella), a mystery that becomes one of the series’ deepest emotional wounds. He also tries to protect his younger brothers, including Alejandro (Juanpa Zurita), from the same chaos that shaped him.

Romance, fame, luxury, and hit songs are all here, including his turbulent relationship with Erika (Camila Sodi). But at its core, Luis Miguel: The Series is about survival in the spotlight, breaking free from family control, and searching for truth when the whole world only sees the star.

Review

Telebesitos Tip 💋
You don’t need to be a fan of the music to enjoy this one. Diego Boneta channeling Luis Miguel is where the magic happens. The voice, the swagger, the hair (oh, the hair!) – perfection.

And Óscar Jaenada as Luisito Rey? Babies, that man acts his mustache off. He gives us one of the most unhinged, magnetic, and emotionally complex characters in the entire novela universe.
