In Sin tu mirada (2017), Marina (Claudia Martín) is born blind and gets yanked from her rich family of birth in classic novela-switcheroo fashion. Raised by a midwife in the countryside, she grows up sweet, humble, and bumping into furniture like it’s her job. Enter doctor-turned-heartthrob Luis Alberto (Osvaldo de León), who – surprise! – might be more than just a dreamy guy with strong jawline energy. You know the drill: secrets, lies, love triangles, evil moms, and a blind heroine perfecting the art of the dramatic thousand-yard stare.
Marina (Claudia Martín) is a young woman born blind and raised in a humble coastal village, where she develops a deep connection to nature and an even deeper emotional resilience. Enter Dr. Luis Alberto (Osvaldo de León), a privileged ophthalmologist who’s about to get a crash course in feelings – and consequences.
Their love story is tender, tortured, and tangled in class divides, family secrets, and one very manipulative mother-in-law. As Marina navigates a world she can’t see, she teaches everyone around her to truly feel – and yes, there will be tears, betrayals, and at least one dramatic surgery.
A remake of the 1970 classic Esmeralda, this Televisa telenovela updates the classic with modern flair, lush visuals, and a heroine who’s anything but helpless. It’s a tale of inner strength, outer sabotage, and love that refuses to blink.
Based on: Esmeralda (1970)
Love at first sight:
This was Claudia Martín’s very first lead role and our queen delivered. Even when the “I’m blind!” acting got a little community theater (those “accidental” furniture collisions were lowkey hilarious ), she still carried the entire show on her glamorous little shoulders.
Where things lost focus:
Look, we signed up for feelings, not full-volume existential crises every ten minutes. At times it felt like a few cast members (you’ll know exactly who) were auditioning for Best Emotional Breakdown at Maximum Volume. They all cry pretty – but even beauty has a decibel limit.
Worth watching?
We say yes. Marina and Luis’ chemistry had the kind of slow-burn novela love that had us whispering “ya bésense” every time they came on screen. Just prepare for some yelling, and a few moments where you’ll wonder, “wait, didn’t that already happen?” But hey – that’s la vida telenovela.
Telebesitos Tip 💋
Claudia Martín saw her future and said: lead roles only from now on, please. Sometimes a novela doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel – just spin it with style.
