Televisa did it again in 2014 with a big serving of melodrama in this remake of the 1971 classic, Muchacha italiana viene a casarse. Fiorella (Livia Brito), a sweet but headstrong Italian girl, moves to Mexico after tragedy strikes her family. What she doesn’t expect is to land smack in the middle of the wealthy Ángeles family’s drama – where romance, betrayal, and family feuds are always on the menu.
Between her fiery love story with Pedro (José Ron) and the scheming relatives circling like vultures, Fiorella’s journey is a whirlwind of passion, heartbreak, and resilience. Think big romance, bigger fights, and just enough Italian spice to keep things deliciously messy. Love blooms, secrets explode, and Fiorella realizes that marriage is the least complicated part of this whole mess.
Based on: Muchacha italiana viene casarse (1969)
What we loved:
Livia Brito, take a bow. This was the role that turned all of us casual fans into full-on believers. And José Ron and Livia Brito’s chemistry is so electric it’s no surprise their on-screen spark became a real-life romance. (Naturally, like any good novela fling, it fizzled fast. But still, the lore!) Also huge shoutout to Ela Velden, making her novela debut and already serving “future lead star” energy.
What made us say mamma mía:
We have to talk about those Italian accents. Love to the cast, but sometimes it was giving full-on Olive Garden commercial energy. Also, with 176 episodes, there was plenty of filler (and plenty of time for them to Google “how to fake an Italian accent convincingly”).
Telebesitos Tip 💋
Come for the enemies-to-lovers slow burn, and enjoy watching the exact moment Livia Brito claimed her lead actress throne.
