2014 was a banner year for Televisa, and their crown jewel was La malquerida. And this one was brought to us by none other than iconic producer José Alberto Castro (aka El Güero), a Telebesitos-certified hitmaker. So yes, expectations were high.
Based on the classic play by Jacinto Benavente, La malquerida dives deep into the twisted mess of forbidden love, buried secrets, and that painful thing we call family loyalty. The drama ignites after Cristina’s husband dies under shady circumstances. Cristina (played by the eternal queen Victoria Ruffo) is left clinging to her ranch and her daughter Acacia (Ariadne Díaz). Enter Esteban (Christian Meier), the handsome ranch hand turned stepdad, who takes on the role of protector… but harbors a dangerous secret: he’s in love with his step-daughter Acacia. Messy doesn’t even begin to cover it.
What follows is José Alberto Castro doing what he does best – turning slow-burn tension into a full-blown emotional inferno, packed with forbidden love, family fractures, and enough ranchside melodrama to keep fans gasping for air.
Telebesitos Tip💋
For all its problematic themes and morally murky twists, La malquerida is a classic for a reason. It’s Greek tragedy meets Televisa melodrama. Heavy on the stares, heavier on the secrets. This one’s for fans of novelas who like their love stories served with moral gray areas that make you go “Wait, should I be rooting for this?”
