Synopsis

El Clon (2010) said regular love triangles are cute, but what if one corner was a clone? This ambitious Telemundo remake of Brazil’s iconic O Clone mixes sweeping romance, family drama, and sci-fi chaos into one glossy, addictive ride. Set between Miami and Fez, Morocco, it turns questions about fate, identity, and forbidden love into full novela spectacle.

Jade (Sandra Echeverría), raised in the U.S., is sent to Morocco after her mother’s death to live under the strict guidance of her uncle Ali. There she meets Lucas Ferrer (Mauricio Ochmann), the gentle son of a wealthy family. Their connection is instant, intense, and complicated by major cultural and religious barriers. Naturally, they fall hard anyway.

Then tragedy changes everything. Lucas’s twin brother Diego dies in a helicopter crash, pushing family friend Dr. Augusto Albieri into dangerous genius mode. Using Lucas’s DNA, he secretly creates the world’s first human clone – Daniel – and brings him into existence through an unsuspecting woman.

Twenty years later, the wounds never healed.

Jade is stuck in a loveless marriage, Lucas is older and emotionally worn down, and Daniel grows into a young man who looks exactly like the Lucas Jade first loved. Suddenly, the past is standing right in front of her. El Clon becomes a surreal battle between memory and reality, asking whether true love belongs to who someone was – or who they became. Big feelings, wild science, and pure destiny-core drama.

Based on: O Clone (Brazil, 2001)

Review

Telebesitos Tip 💋
Where else but a telenovela can forbidden love and human cloning feel like they belong in the same story? If you’re in the mood for something different and don’t mind a novela that takes its sweet time getting to the point, El Clon is worth checking out.
